Step right up! La Ronge Elk’s Fair makes triumphant return

Jul 22, 2022 | 12:05 PM

One of the biggest fundraisers for a local hockey club is finally getting underway this weekend.

The annual La Ronge Elk’s Fair makes a triumphant return over the next couple of days, raising money and support for the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

In March, the Elk’s confirmed the annual festivities would take place in July after confirmation from Canucks Amusement, the fair company that will be setting up.

The 2020 and 2021 events were unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

A variety of activities will take place over the weekend including a boat raffle, 50/50 draw, carnival games, and a co-ed slo-pitch tournament.

Meanwhile, board member with the Ice Wolves, Randy Johns, explained how important this weekend is to the team.

“It’s one of the major fundraisers we have, the major event for us in the summer,” he said. “It helps put sticks in the hands of our players and helps pay our billet fees for everybody, helps pay our coaches and all the staff wages.”

Johns mentioned their fundraising goal is somewhere in the tens of thousands for this year’s event.

“If everything goes well, we might make $20,000 or $30,000 but it depends on the support, the people that are there and how it all goes.”

The Elk’s Fair started Friday afternoon and wraps up on July 24.
