13U Hooks feeling proud after provincials in Macklin

They may not have won a game in the tournament but the La Ronge Hooks 13U team is still proud of their performance.

The team was at the provincial championships in Macklin last weekend, where they fell 0-3 in their round-robin games.

“We lost all three games, but every game was close. Even though we didn’t get the results, overall, we had a really good season,” said head coach Corey Borthwick.

In their first game, they came out strong but narrowly lost to the Battleford Beavers 16-13. Their next game was also close as they fell 9-5 to the Macklin Lakers before rounding out the tournament with a 7-3 loss to the Nipawin Giants.

“We were in a tough pool. We were in every game right to the end. We could have won every game that we played in, but the baseball luck wasn’t there,” added Borthwick.

Despite the losses, Borthwick said the team and the families enjoyed the weekend.

“We had a great time. Macklin put on a great show. Half of the teams camped at the campgrounds near the ball field.”

Now that the season has wrapped up, Borthwick and the team are already looking forward to growing next season.
