Air Ronge resident preparing for national track and field competition in Kamloops
Air Ronge’s Gill Gracie is back from Regina after competing at the 47th annual Canadian Masters Athletics Championships.
The event, which is held in a different Canadian city every year, was held July 29–31. Yuko Nakano of Edmonton was the only one other competitor in Gracie’s category, and she managed to outperform Gracie in all five throwing events including discus, javelin, shotput, hammer and weight throw.
Nakano even managed break a 2013 masters record in the hammer throw event.
“I was pretty disappointed in myself this year. I hadn’t trained properly,” Gracie said. “Also, my competition in the same age group, the lady who beat me … she was a former Japanese national champion.”
