La Ronge Elks Club break-in to cost volunteer group nearly $4,000

The La Ronge Elks Club has experienced a setback following the recent break-and-enter at their hall in Air Ronge.

On or around Dec. 11, the Elks Hall was broken into after two back doors were forced open. At least two interior doors were also damaged and between $1,000 to $1,500 worth of alcohol was stolen.

Club member Curtis Skalicky explained an alarm system did go off, but nobody was available to arrive at the hall in a timely manner.

“They didn’t do any vandalism. They didn’t just break stuff for fun. There was no spray painting or that kind of stuff,” he said. “If anyone knows of anything contact the local RCMP detachment and hopefully someone will be able to determine who it was.”

Skalicky noted the lost inventory and damage to the doors will cost the club upwards of $4,000. He added that will affect the club’s ability to donate to individuals and community organizations.

Earlier this week, the Elks Club donated $10,000 to the Lac La Ronge Food Bank.

Skalicky also mentioned the club has reached out to Comptech Innovation to determine the cost of installing indoor cameras. He said previously there was an Internet-enabled camera outside the building, but it was torn down and broken by youth within days of going up.

If the public has any information about the recent break-and-enter at the Elks Club, they are encouraged to call La Ronge RCMP at 1-306-425-6730 to report it.
