Ice Wolves to be represented at 2023 MJHL-SJHL Showcase in Winnipeg

Jan 13, 2023 | 4:30 PM

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), is pleased to announce team rosters who will compete at the 2023 MJHL-SJHL Showcase.

The event will be held Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the Seven Oaks Sportsplex in Winnipeg.

A total of six teams will compete in the showcase event, with three teams from both the MJHL and SJHL. All teams have been selected by the showcase coaching staff of their respective leagues forming one 18U roster, and two 20U rosters.

Several members of the La Ronge Ice Wolves are heading to the event. Goalie Dawson Smith, defenceman Kaycee Coyle and forward Ethan Strik will represent La Ronge in Winnipeg.

“I think this is fantastic for our players,” said Ice Wolves head coach Kevin Kaminski. “We’ve seen what Coyle, Strik, and Smith have done all season in La Ronge, but this is an exciting opportunity for all three of them to strut their stuff in front of the scouts and hopefully get them closer to college or university commitments.”

Additionally, Kaminski will be on the bench of the SJHL’s 20U White squad. La Ronge’s trainer, Parker Fofonoff, will also represent L.A. North at the showcase at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, the event provides high-performance exposure in front of NHL, WHL, NCAA, and USPORTS scouts. The 2023 edition of the joint showcase is the first in Manitoba and first since 2020 in Regina after both the 2021 and 2022 showcases were canceled due to the global pandemic.

Tickets will become available for purchase online at mjhlhockey.ca starting Jan. 17. Walk-up tickets will also be available for purchase starting at 11 a.m. on Jan. 31 at the Seven Oaks Sportsplex.
