Northlands College is pleased to announce the launch of Capable North as part of its 2023 Year of Transformation.

According to a media release issued Wednesday, Capable North creates a critical space that brings together residents of northern Saskatchewan to explore new skills that develop themselves, their careers, or their businesses, agencies and organizations.

In addition, Capable North facilitators seek to support northerners with ongoing development, businesses and organizations and supporting them in achieving their vision for the future. It offers work-integrated learning opportunities, industry certifications, micro-credentials, general interest programming, and science, technology, engineering, and math camps.

“Capable North is about celebrating the people and the opportunities of the North and is led by local and national experts,” said Northlands College president and CEO Karsten Henriksen. “The North is very dynamic, and our shared future is bright. Capable North is about celebrating and creating opportunities for all of northern Saskatchewan.”

Courses are provided at a local campus, via distance, or directly in the workplace. All courses have an assigned qualified facilitator and run anywhere from a few hours to a few days or weeks. The cost for each course varies.

Upcoming courses include appreciative inquiry, proposal writing, developing new managers, six sigma, goal setting, project management essentials, business writing, supervising others, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), pet first aid, basics of painting, filing taxes, entry-level Spanish, boreal plant identification and the Canadian Firearms Safety Course.

Through increased learning opportunities, Capable North reflects Northlands College’s commitment to transformation by meeting the needs of learners, communities, and our region’s workforce and labour market.
