Provincial government celebrates population growth in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan’s population increased by 6,821 people in the first quarter of 2023.

According to the provincial government, Saskatchewan’s population went up by 33,101 over the past year, reaching 1,221,439. That represents the largest yearly increase in population the province has seen since 1914, the government noted.

The growth has largely been due to strong immigration numbers, with the 33,101 figure coming largely from a net international migration increase of 35,820 and a net natural increase of 4,225.

Jeremy Harrison, Saskatchewan’s minister of immigration and career training, said a number of government policies help make the province attractive and welcoming for newcomers.
