Lodewyk pots a pair, Raiders come from behind to steal win over Chiefs

Nov 11, 2023 | 12:04 AM

Harrison Lodewyk led the flyby twice on Friday night, helping the Prince Albert Raiders notch their first win in the U.S. against the Spokane Chiefs 3-2 at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

The win is the second consecutive on this seven-game road trip after the Raiders downed Lethbridge on Wednesday. The win is also the first in the U.S. for Prince Albert since Oct. 26, 2019 when they defeated the Chiefs 4-1.

Joining Lodewyk in the goal column was Sloan Stanick, netting his sixth of the season while he also potted an assist. Also collecting helpers in the game were Aiden Oiring, Niall Crocker, and Eric Johnston.

For Spokane, Chase Bertholet and Conner Roulette each had two points with Bertholet potting two assists and Roulette scoring a goal and an assist. Will McIsaac was the other goal scorer for the Chiefs.

In goal for the Raiders was Max Hildebrand who made 29 saves to collect the win to help Prince Albert improve to 11-8-0-1 on the campaign.

On the opposite end of the ice, Dawson Cowan was roaming the blue paint and stopped 29 of 32 shots as Spokane falls to 6-7-2-0 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Spokane scored the lone goal in the opening frame thanks to a Roulette tip in front from a Bertholet point shot.

Fast forward to the second and the Raiders managed to tie it. Midway through the frame, Oiring connected with Stanick while on the man advantage, scoring just seconds in to make it 1-1.

The knotted score would stay the same for long as a point shot from McIsaac managed to squeak through the pads of Hildebrand as Spokane held a 2-1 lead after two.

The lamp lit again in favour of Prince Albert early in the third. Lodewyk carried the puck over the blueline on a partial breakaway and went far side on Cowan, tying the game again.

The Raiders gained the lead with just under six minutes to go thanks to a nice bang-bang play. Stanick worked the puck in the corner and managed to break away and dish the puck in front for Lodewyk who chipped it home for his second of the night, making it 3-2.

With 10 seconds to go and the Chiefs net empty, Pakkala made an attempt to cash in on the empty net goal but hit the post while doing so. On the ensuing Spokane attack, the Chiefs managed to get a shot off and scored, however they just missed the train as time expired a second before to give P.A the win in Spokane.

The Raiders will now travel south to Kennewick to visit the Tri-City Americans on Saturday night. Nolan Kowal will have the call on 101.5 Beach Radio. Puck drop is at 8:05 Saskatchewan time.
