Do you know your deer?

Mule deer characteristics:
• Black-tipped ropey tail that stays down while running
• White rump visible when tail is down
• Stiff-legged bouncing gait, while running appears to spring
• Forked antlers that do not arise off a main beam

White-tailed deer characteristics:
• V-shaped brown tail with white tip when down, white tail raised while running
• Little, if any, white showing on the rump when tail is down
• Loping, running gait, typical run
• Antlers arise off a main beam
