The Town of La Ronge is inviting residents to join the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge for the month of June.

“Residents should get involved because physical activity is good for your health, but [by] joining in some of our programs also helps build a strong sense of community,” said community services manager Connor Tessier in an email to larongeNOW.

“We know that an active community is a stronger, healthier, happier community and we hope everyone joins in.”

The ParticipACTION Community Challenge is a national physical activity and sport initiative that encourages everyone in Canada to get active throughout June in search of Canada’s Most Active Community. It is meant to inspire and support people to make physical activity a vital part of their everyday life.

In 2022, La Ronge was named Saskatchewan’s most active community and won a $15,000 prize.

“La Ronge was not recognized as one of Canada’s or Saskatchewan’s most active communities in 2023, but we will continue to strive to get our community active,” Tessier noted.

“There are many benefits to physical activity, and participating in a challenge like this helps raise awareness.”

Tessier explained the town is organizing free events throughout June to help get the community active. Some examples are outdoor exercise sessions with a local physical trainer, a walkabout car show in Patterson Park, basketball, badminton and a town staff baseball game.

The municipality is also encouraging organizations to get involved by registering as a group on the Community Challenge website and to host programs or events to promote physical activity and sport. Residents can also sign up as an individual.

If anyone is unsure how to get involved, they can reach out to Tessier at 1-306-425-7100 or email at recreation@laronge.ca.
