LLRIB distances itself from Garcia Silica

Officials with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) want the public to know they are in no way affiliated with Garcia Silica Incorporated.

After a meeting was held last week at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre regarding a proposed silica mine, LLRIB land and resources coordinator Darwin Roy said there have been many calls to leadership by people concerned with the project.

“The LLRIB would like to suggest to those who have an interest in the project to contact Garcia Silica directly with any questions,” Roy said, adding any band members with concerns are invited to contact him at the band office.

Roy also noted the band is aware of what’s being proposed, but hasn’t officially engaged with Garcia Silica because they are awaiting a letter from the Government of Saskatchewan which would initiate the duty to consult process.
