Winners revealed at inaugural recognition gala

Mar 18, 2018 | 4:00 PM

The finest businesses and individuals were acknowledged for their excellence last night at the Tri-Community Awards and Recognition Gala.

Lake Country Co-op was awarded the prestigious title of Business of the Year after being nominated in the category along with Cravings Late Night Food and Northwinds Bus Lines. La Ronge Food Store manager Margaret Floch, as well as Air Ronge C-Store manager Adam Luciuk, accepted the honour on the companies behalf.

“It was kind of shocking,” Floch said about the win. “Yes, we’re big in the community but there were a lot of other people we were up against. It was quite surprising.”

With the two stores employing close to 100 people in the tri-communities, Floch said they wouldn’t be able to hire that many workers if they didn’t receive the support they do from residents. A lot of employees also volunteer at different functions in the community, she noted, and the Co-op supports local causes with donations. Floch said the Food Store also does it’s best to serve customers, adding it’s very similar to grocery stores in the city.

“It was a wonderful evening and I’m so honoured to be going home with an award,” Floch said.

The other winners at the gala included Colleen Clark for Citizen of the Year, Matt Klassen for Leader of the Year, Woodlands and Waterways Visitor Centre for Non-Profit of the Year, Kevin Roberts for Youth Sport Involvement, Colin Jolly for Youth Involvement, Home Hardware for Retail Business of the Year, Cravings Late Night Food for Restaurant of the Year, Mid City Electric for Contractor of the Year and JAM Automotive and Powersports for Automotive Business of the Year.

The gala was organized by the Lac La Ronge Chamber of Commerce.
