JRMCC Entertainment Park opening soon

May 15, 2018 | 5:00 PM

The wait is almost over for the official opening of Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre’s Entertainment Park.

“It’s all about keeping kids busy, active and just providing another activity for families to come out and enjoy time together,” said director of sports and recreation Kevin Roberts. “We did some concrete work last week and we’re just getting our canteen and equipment ready to go.”

In all, Roberts said the new park will include northern Saskatchewan’s only mini-golf course, a beach volleyball court, as well as batting cages and golf driving ranges. While the volleyball court isn’t expected to be completed until early June, he said opening day is set for May 28. Four employees should be hired by then and the fencing work should also be done.

Roberts also said the mini-golf course was mostly completed by last October, but by then it was already too late to order supplies and make it operational. He noted the cost of the park is about $230,000, adding $200,000 was awarded through the federal government’s Canada 150 grant program. The mini-golf course will also have a northern theme and Roberts said decorations like a miniature cabin and fire watchtower will be the centerpieces.
