Restrictions lifted for McGibbon Bay water users

May 25, 2018 | 12:00 PM

McGibbon Bay water users are now permitted to access water from the lake as they did before millions of liters of untreated sewage spilled into a nearby marsh in February.

“People can use the water from McGibbon Bay as they could previous to the incident,” Water Security Agency Spokesperson Ron Podbielski said. “The Town of La Ronge is back to their regular monitoring schedule as per their permit to operate a sewage works.”

The WSA ordered the municipality to start taking samples in the bay in February after the sewage spilled at treatment plant behind Quarry Park. Podbielski said those samples all came back normal based on results measured before the spill, adding they examine the carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, and unionized ammonia. The last sample the WSA received was collected May 2.

“There will be ongoing testing to make sure everything is within the acceptable bounds,” Podbielski said.
