Reading club at Alex Robertson Public Library more than just books

The TD Summer Reading Club at the Alex Robertson Public Library is proving to be a hit with youngsters.

The seven-week camp began July 3 with summer program leaders Sarah Brown and Teagan Kirzinger hired to come up with various activities and deliver them until Aug. 17. While the overall themes to the club are ‘Fun with Favourites’ and ‘Follow Your Passions’, Kirzinger said there’s a new sub-topic each week.

“The first week we had science, then it was about different cultures around the world,” she said.

This week has been all about water-related activities, Kirzinger noted, as attendees have been using a slip and slide, throwing water balloons and will be going to the beach Friday. She also added Super Hero Week begins July 23 with a tour of the fire hall, followed by visits from the RCMP, conservation officers, and a trip to see the nurses and elders at the hospital. The week ends with a visit by a special storyteller touring with the Pahkisimon Nuyeʔáh Library System.
