Spooked horses injure kids on cart ride

RCMP say one child may have life-threatening injuries after two horses pulling a cart on a grid road were spooked.

According to RCMP, 20 young people here on the horse-drawn cart on a grid road off Highway 247 in the Round Lake area, just southwest of Esterhazy at 8:30 p.m. Thursday when something spooked the animals.

The horses broke into a gallop that caused the wagon to cross a ditch and stop in some trees.

While the wagon did not overturn, the sudden stop injured several people.

A media release from mounties said STARS air ambulance took one person to hospital with what may be serious injuries.
