La Ronge secures funding for seniors housing

The Town of La Ronge says it’s being recognized by both levels of senior government as a service centre in the North. Town officials were responding to the announcement this week by the federal and provincial governments confirming a total of $2.54 million earmarked for the creation of 10 affordable rental units for seniors.

In a statement, a town spokesperson told larongeNOW the funding helped recognize La Ronge’s importance regarding health, social, and commercial services.

“By adding to the range of housing choices, especially affordable ones, it is supporting the growth of the town and quality of life for all residents,” the spokesperson said.

The housing development is being built on shovel-ready, serviced lots across from the women’s shelter and “will allow more seniors from the community to age in place when they can no longer maintain a larger home.”
