Call for artists seeking artwork about truth and reconciliation

A call for artists from the La Ronge Arts Council is seeking artwork with the theme of “Truth and Reconciliation in our Community.”

Open to all residents of the tri-community, arts council member Anne Cook said she’s hoping people who attended some of the workshops at the Alex Robertson Public Library earlier this year take the opportunity to have their work displayed at Mistasinihk Place. The show will run throughout the entire month of September.

“We had a series of workshops where there was a lot of support from people in our community, who were interested in the concept of reconciliation,” she said. “We hope we get something back, so we can have a collective of what reconciliation means in our community.”

During the first six months of the year, Cook noted there were many workshops but there’s since been a break over the summer. Those workshops included invited guests who taught participants a variety of mediums such as beading, drawing, painting and writing. Cook added people can still register an exhibit without having taken part in a workshop, and they can submit artwork in a medium of their choosing as long as it’s ready to be hung for display.
