Connection becomes 2018 Men’s Slo-Pitch League champs

The Connection beat The Pirates during Men’s Slo-Pitch League finals Saturday to become the 2018 playoff champions.

“We had the first set of games on Friday night, then Saturday we finished off the rest,” league organizer Travis Cook said. “We have seven teams in the league and they all showed up.”

The playoffs occurred at the baseball diamonds in Air Ronge and included The Connection, The Lands, Oleos, Pirates, Sinners, Tigers and Underdogs. The Pirates were the first in the league heading into playoffs, having only lost two games by default. The squad first lost to The Connection on the ‘A’ side, but came back to face them again in the final after beating The Underdogs on the ‘B’ side. After two games where each team won one, The Connection was ultimately declared the winners.

“The Pirates team I played for, we beat them the first game, but we had to beat them two games and they beat us,” Cook said.

Cook also noted it’s been a successful season for the Men’s Slo-Pitch League in La Ronge, adding the number of teams was above-average because of the addition of two new ones. He said slo-pitch is fairly popular in the region, but believes there could be more teams involved considering the population of the tri-communities. The slo-pitch league runs from May to August every year.
