Public meetings set for future of Eagle Point, Patterson Park

Aug 23, 2018 | 12:00 PM

Eagle Point residents are invited to a public meeting Oct. 3 to discuss potentially joining the Town of La Ronge.

“We want to find out from the people in Eagle Point which way they want to go,” Deputy-Mayor Hugh Watt said. “I don’t know if one would like to use right now the word annexation, but it’s just to open some discussions to find out if they want to play a bigger part in the Town of La Ronge.”

Located along the shores of McGibbon Bay on Lac La Ronge, there are currently about 20 homes which are governed by a local homeowners association. Residents there currently look after their own water, sewer and garbage disposal, Watt said, and ultimately don’t rely on the town for any specific services. He noted since council’s plan is to grow the capacity of La Ronge, it makes sense for them to approach people living in Eagle Point.

“It will widen the tax base of La Ronge and we just want to work together,” Watt said. “If we want to build our community, we need people.”

Another public meeting is set for Oct. 16 to discuss the future of Patterson Park. Open to all residents of the tri-community, Watt added the results of The Perfect Patterson survey will also be available at the event. He said council is currently working to revitalize downtown and the park is an important part of the plan, because of the ideal lakefront property it sits on.

“It’s taken a beating over the last couple of years from a lack of maintenance, but we’re in there now and hired a local contractor to clear out some of the dead trees,” Watt said. “Part of the process is finding out what taxpayers of La Ronge want to see happen down there.”

Both meetings will be held at the Kikinhak Friendship Centre with a start time of 7 p.m.
