La Ronge council seeking fourth administrator in two years

Sep 4, 2018 | 5:00 PM

La Ronge Council will be searching for their fourth chief administrative officer (CAO) since October 2016 after the unexpected departure of Stephen Conway.

“He went on sick leave, then he decided he must seek employment somewhere else,” Deputy-Mayor Hugh Watt said. “He didn’t have a lot of family and whatnot here, but I don’t know what his reasoning was. He just decided he had enough of La Ronge.”

As council prepares to search for a new administrator, Watt noted bylaw officer Robbie Bender with assume the title of acting-CAO until the position can be filled. He also added Conway, who took the job in September last year, left on his own accord last month as council didn’t ask him to leave.

When the current and entirely new slate of councillors took office in October 2016, it took less than 100 days after the election for council to decide to let former CAO Victoria MacDonald go. She was employed with the town since 2013 and, after she left, her assistant Gavin Willins was promoted in her place. Willins resigned about six months later and he’s currently employed with the Village of Air Ronge.
