Operation Impact resulted in 15 local traffic charges

Fifteen charges were laid as the result of a La Ronge RCMP check stop Oct. 5.

The traffic stop was conducted along Highway 2 in Air Ronge and was part of a national awareness campaign called Operation Impact. In total, La Ronge RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Kyle Watson said 255 vehicles were stopped and checked with assistance from the Stanley Mission RCMP.

“We had 14 charges laid for people driving aggressively, speed and of that nature, and one seat belt ticket was issued,” he said. “It was really good in the stats were there were no impaired drivers. We didn’t stop anyone who had liquor and blew a fail.”

With Christmas approaching in the next couple months, Watson noted residents can expect more traffic stops to deter illegal behaviour. He added the holidays are always expected to be a busy time for officers because with festivities comes liquor consumption.
