Concert series to feature bands from across Canada

Winters are long in northern Saskatchewan and members of the La Ronge Arts Council hope a bit of live music will help pass the time.

The annual Napatak Ramble Concert Series begins Nov. 16 with a performance from Pretty Archie at the Elks Hall in Air Ronge. Known for high-energy songs mixed with four-piece harmony ballades, council board member Alexis Reichert is hopeful the band will attract a large crowd.

“We need fun, engaging things to do in town and, for the arts council, arts of all kinds are important for people to be exposed to,” she said. “The shows are definitely popular. If it’s a bigger band playing on a weekend, we see more people. This one is on a Friday, so we’re hoping we get a really good turn out.”

In partnership with the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Council (OSAC), the series will include three live bands, two local music nights and the Napatak Ramble auditions. The local music nights are scheduled for Feb. 8 and May 10, while Red Moon Road performs March 1 at the Elks Hall and Dylan Menzie is at the Eagle Point Event Centre April 25. Napatak Ramble auditions will occur March 29 and 30.

With La Ronge being a small northern town, Reichert noted it can be hard to attract such talented bands to the area. She added the series is meant to make it less difficult to do so as the bands coming are touring the province through the OSAC. Reichert also stated the shows are free for anyone under the age of 17 with tickets for live bands costing $20 and local music nights set at $10.

“We’ve had a really good turn out so far and we’re hoping this series will be the same,” she said. “The idea is just to have live music available at an affordable price for everyone in the community.”

Tickets can be puchased at Conexus Credit Union and the Lac La Ronge Visitors Centre.
