A Turnor Lake RCMP officer who was involved in the search for a man in medical distress on Frobisher Lake said he’s doing well and recovering from his injuries.

“I’m not sure if he has been released from hospital yet, but he’s expected to make a recovery,” Const. Colin Marco stated. “It’s unclear exactly how long he had been gone before someone found him. The last anyone had seen him prior to this was the night before.”

On Jan. 18, police were dispatched after a report of a sudden death in a vehicle about 13 kilometers from the community. Upon arriving, it was discovered the man wasn’t deceased and was in medical distress. The vehicle was stuck with a blocked tailpipe and the vehicle was filling with carbon monoxide. The driver had a foot injury, complained of dizziness and confusion, was unable to walk and was very cold.

Marco noted the man could have been mistaken as deceased because he was unconscious when found by the person who made the report. He’s also unsure if whoever found the man checked to see if had a pulse, adding to the untrained observer, he appeared to be dead. When Marco responded to the call with local guides, he stated the temperature was -35 Celsius.
