In Loving Memory of Alexander Harold Beck
November 9, 1944 – January 8, 2024
Alexander Harold Beck, known to all as Alex, departed from this world on January 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and boundless generosity. Born on November 9, 1944, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to the late Harold and Gwen Beck, Alex was the second youngest of three children and the last surviving child.
At the tender age of two, the Beck family moved to La Ronge, Saskatchewan, where Alex would make the beautiful North his lifelong home. In his teenage years, Alex joined the La Ronge Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter, dedicating over 25 years of his life to serving his community.
It was on November 23, 1967, that Alex met the love of his life, Linda Beck, and within the year, they were engaged and married on July 27, 1968. Their union spanned 55 years, during which Alex was a devoted husband and a pillar of strength for his family.
Together, Alex and Linda built a home and raised a loving family in La Ronge. Their four children, Cindy Beck, Tammy (Guy) Watt, Angela (Shannon) Dumont, and Adam (Darren) Beck, were a source of immense pride for Alex. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Melissa, Johnathon, Julia, Kayla, Reilly, and Jazlyn, as well as three great-grandchildren.
Alex’s journey through life was marked by diverse careers, including working as a powerhouse operator, delivering water for the Town of La Ronge, and serving at the power plant. He ventured into entrepreneurship with a logging company and a trucking business, contracting to the Department of Highways. Linda embarked on a new venture opening “Linda’s Little Store,” in the early 90’s and Alex joined her a few years later, fostering a sense of community until its closure in 1998. His final career chapter unfolded at Eagles Point Resort and concluded at the Town of La Ronge’s Public Works Department, where he retired at the age of 74.
An avid outdoorsman, Alex cherished the North, relishing the joys of fishing and embracing cabin life. He was a skilled hunter, spending countless years pursuing his passion with friends. Alex’s diverse interests included curling, bowling, stock car racing, and proving himself a formidable poker player.
Preceded in death by his parents Harold and Gwen Beck, in-laws John and Helen Keehborn, brother Brian, sister Barb, son-in-law Bobby Sych, numerous other family members, and his best friend Lorne Vancoughnett, Alex leaves a void that can never be filled.
Alex’s enduring legacy is one of selflessness, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to family and community. His boundless love and generosity will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In the words of his family, “Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.” Alex Beck will be dearly missed but fondly remembered, and his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 20, 2024, at 2:00pm in La Ronge, Saskatchewan at the Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the La Ronge Hospital in Alex’s honor.
