1944 – 2018
Sadly, on April 18, 2018, at the age of 73 years, Alice Pearl Sandvold passed away peacefully in the Parkland Integrated Health Centre Long Term Care. Alice was born November 12, 1944 in the Birch Hills Hospital, the fourth child in a family of 3 girls and 3 boys born to Arnold and Louise Sandvold of Crystal Springs, SK.
Alice upgraded her education and took a Special Care Aide course, where she went on to work in a daycare program for seniors, a job she really enjoyed. Alice was a very caring, kind person and of great strength, and endurance. She was a wonderful sister, aunt, and friend who was dearly loved by her sisters and brothers, nieces, nephews and friends. Alice unfortunately was diagnosed with a very rare form of blood cancer. She endured chemo treatments, that followed with hair loss, and not being able to work at a job she loved with all her heart. Alice moved to Shellbrook after her 3rd bout of cancer to be closer to her family.
Unfortunately, her cancer returned in November 2017, and there was no recourse. Alice took some radiation treatments and was able to have some good days that gave her a little more time with her family and special friend John Berger. She spent time in the Spiritwood Nursing Home, Canwood Care Home and was able to spend her last few days in Shellbrook Nursing Home. Alice received excellent care in all of these facilities from the very kind and compassionate staff.
Alice is lovingly survived by her sisters, Marlene Mason of Shellbrook, SK and Marlene’s children, Kelvin (Danny) Mason of Saskatoon, SK; Kathy (Brad) Striga of Mayfair, SK, and their children, Theresa (Brandon) and children Brooklyn & Bentley Gramlich of Calgary, AB; Robert (Alyssa) Nagy of Macklin, SK and their children Macy & Zoey; Katelyn (Tyrel) Jonescu and their daughter Harper of Lucky Lake, SK; Allen Mason of Prince Albert, SK; Margery (Larry) Sandmoen of Chilliwack, B.C, and their children, Amber (Mike) Vanee and their daughter Millie of Calgary, AB, Ashley (Joel) Hood and their daughter Bailey of Vancouver, B.C.; her nieces and nephews Brenda (Chuck) Lewis of Airdre, AB, and Brent Sandvold & family, Lisa Sandvold & family; her sister-in-law Olga Sandvold; her ex-husband Leon Barbey of Vancouver, B.C.; her special friend John Berger of Shellbrook, SK.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, Arnold and Louise Sandvold; her brothers, Harry & Harvey Sandvold; her niece Karen Sandvold.
As per the wishes of the family, there will be a private interment at a later date. In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Alice to the Canadian Cancer Society. Family and friends wishing to send online condolences are welcome to visit www.beaulacfuneralhome.com
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Beau “Lac” Funeral Home, Tammy Smart – Director (Shellbrook 306-747-2828).
