Bud (Harold) Karpish
March 12, 1939 – May 16, 2018
Bud was all about family and friends … and fishing. We cannot picture him any other way than laughing and joking.
He was born on the Karpish homestead in Honeymoon on March 12, 1939. Bud married his sweetheart Olga (Mayowski) 55 years ago and they were two fun-loving people who enjoyed life to the fullest. They were inseparable: we can’t seem to mention Dad without Mom. There are tales of rural dances and sneaking Mom out of nursing residence for evenings of fun. They had two children: son Rod (Line) Karpish (the grandsons he was so proud of — Jeremi and Kyle) and daughter Terri (Mike Gyoerick). As a family, we enjoyed many summers out at Candle Lake.
Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting antiques and cooking. He loved to make fresh buns, perogies and chicken soup. We are sure there are many people who remember laughs with Mom and Dad over a home-cooked meal. He could make wine from anything including crab apples, and one of our favourites was made from locally-grown grapes. But we never knew how much alcohol content was in Dad’s wine.
Bud would often relay many fond tales of the people he worked with. He had many careers including those at Burns, the railway, Beaver Lumber, Corrections, Canada Post and farming. He and Olga also owned and ran a service station in the Red Deer Hill area.
Hard work and family were instilled by his parents, Samuel and Johanna Karpish. He was the youngest of his siblings: Mary (Frank) Zbarschuk, Peter (Sophie) Karpish, Wasyl (Nancy) Karpish, Iris (Steve) Wasylenko, Lucy (Sam) Hiadachuk, Olga (Nick) Parchomuk, and Helen (Tom) Denysiuk.
Bud developed a close relationship with Olga’s parents, Walter and Annie (Feschuk) Mayowski, and her siblings — Roseanne (John) March, Mary (Julius) Billay, Frank (Elaine) Mayowski and Ed (Clara) Mayowski. Bud and Olga also enjoyed the time spent with their numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In their later years, Bud and Olga moved to Cumberland House to follow Mom’s nursing career, and during this time, they developed fond memories and close friendships. They retired at Candle Lake and have many special friends in the community.
In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to Rose Garden Hospice or charity of your choice.
A celebration of Bud’s life will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sat., May 26, 2018, at the P.A. Wildlife Federation, Central Avenue North, R.M. of Buckland, Prince Albert, Sask.
A private family interment will be held at a later date.
