CHOMYK, Dmetro (Jim)

Dmetro (Jim) Chomyk of Prince Albert passed away at home with his dog, Maggie by his side, at the age of 73. Jim was born in Strong Pine area a home birth. He attended Elk Grove, Mons and Weirdale Schools and was relieved to quit in grade 7 and go farming when his dad injured his back. He farmed grandpa Yakym Chomyk’s land as well. Jim moved to Mundare AB, were he continued to farm, then moved to Edmonton and eventually back to Prince Albert, where he worked several labor jobs, but mostly spoke of his great bosses Beatrice and Frank Ruszkowski. Jim is survived by his wife of 22 years: Joan (Veuillette Neault); brother: Ernest (Renata) Chomyk; sister: Marleen Lavoie; sister-in-law; Brenda Hancock; nephews and nieces: Dwayne (Trina) Lavoie, Christina Chomyk, Darren (Ginette) Lavoie, Julie and Matt Bergin, Erick and Darek Chomyk, Devin Chomyk. grand nephews and nieces: Cassandra Lavoie (Dave Kitter), Kamera (Ian) Philpott, Bridget, Donovan, Jaya and Zehlee Lavoie. Jim also leaves behind some special people Jim and Betty Stratychuk, Lloyd, Heather, and Corrine Balan and their families as well as Mr.and Mrs. Howard Rensberry. Jim is predeceased by his parents: Pete and Elizabeth Chomyk; brother: Don; brother-in-law: Henry Lavoie and nephew: Shawn Chomyk and his special canine: Pebbles. Jim loved farming and animals, gardening just like his mom had and being around people. He was full of opinions but after some grumbling respected other’s opinions as well. Jim never failed to ask how his nieces and nephews were doing and remembered all their names. A Celebration of Jim’s life will take place in the summer of 2018 Ernest Chomyk and Marleen Lavoie wish to thank everyone for their kind words, as they described how Jim had touched their lives.
