It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Debra Lee Hurd peacefully at home surrounded by friends and family on May 24, 2019.
Deb was born to Lily and John Cromartie in Prince Albert on July 29, 1959, the baby of 13 children. Deb lived her whole life in Prince Albert, attending school at Connaught School, Prince Charles School, Riverside and finishing school at Carlton High School.
Deb met her husband, Mike, as kids in the same neighbourhood. They attended the same schools for years but did not start dating until much later. Deb and Mike were married on September 24, 1977 in Prince Albert and began their 41-year partnership. They were truly partners, raising their family, building a home and a cabin and doing many projects together for themselves and others.
Deb enjoyed the outdoors, playing ball and golfing as well as being a bowler for many years. Deb was a very creative person and created many beautiful handcrafted items over the years. She could paint, refinish or fix anything and liked nothing more than to help somebody improve something around their home. Deb had the gift of envisioning something and then making it. She enjoyed gardening and loved the cabin at Emma Lake. Many happy times were spent there enjoying family and friends. Over the years Deb liked to spend time with her pet dogs at home and at the lake. Deb travelled with family and friends to many U.S. and beach destinations as well as trips on the motorbike with Mike.
Deb loved to be with her family. She is survived by her husband and best friend, Mike; son Thomas (Erin) and their children Tobin and Tessa; son Jason (Ryan) and their children Colin, Loic and Charlie; brothers Dom, John (Marie), Wayne (Eva), Lucky (Phillip) and Steve; sisters Carol (Don) McKay and Kathy (John) Davidson; brothers-in-law Greg (Deb) Hurd and Randy (Shawn) Hurd as well as many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother and father Lily and John Cromartie; brothers Lester, James and Carl; sisters Janice Friesen and Faye Pendleton; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law as well as her mother-in-law and father-in-law Emily and John Hesje.
Despite health problems during her lifetime, Deb had the spirit of a champion, never complaining and always making the best of the cards she was dealt. She battled cancer bravely and was an inspiration to us all.
A celebration of life will be held at the family cabin at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to the Canadian Cancer Society and the MS Society of Saskatchewan.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel (306) 922-4729.
