Donald Henry Tweidt was born on Friday, April 1, 1927, in Hendon, SK, and passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, in Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 92 years.
The parents of Donald, Martin and Inger Marie Tweidt, both immigrated from Norway to Plaza, North Dakota. Then they moved to Canada where Don was born in Hendon, Sk. Dad was the youngest of 8 children that grew up in the Hendon/Wadena area. He was schooled at the Rutlund School House, some schooling in various locations with his sister and brother in law and finished in Luther College in Regina. He enjoyed moving around most of his life and was able to continue his travels with his treasured job with the railroad as a telegrapher and station agent with the Canadian Pacific (CP).
He met his wife Helen Elves of Torch River, on one of these adventures in Love, Saskatchewan, where he was stationed and married in 1957. They travelled to many destinations before settling down in Wadena, Sk. where he became the new Credit Union’s Manager for several years. He would later retire from this position, do a few different jobs until he took over the Dairy Bar (Fast Food Restaurant) in Wadena.
Dad was busy in Wadena, he was a proud member of the Kinsmen serving in many positions. He also did the books for the Telephones and served on the local schoolboard. He enjoyed curling, fishing, golfing and especially big game hunting.
During this time, they raised a family consisting of Pamela, Shelby (Mike Mayer), son Mark Tweidt and five grandchildren, David Tweidt (Keenan and Paisley Rae Helen), Sarah, Elisha, Chad and Kelly. Dad thoroughly enjoyed his children and offspring at many family events.
Dad moved to Prince Albert in the early 80’s to be with his family and retired in the Prince Albert Area. Dad loved P.A and all the many lakes and scenic drives. Dad was a very gentle loving father that will be missed dearly but we are excited for his next adventure in Glory.
Dad was predeceased by his siblings, Carl (Linnea), Della Tweidt, Alfred (Dorothy), Mabel (Rudolph), Bennie (Hertha), Melvin (Pearl), Sam (Noreen).
Helen (elves) Tweidt, Mom and dad had a very special bond, even through divorce, and we are proud of their friendship that allowed us children both of their attention for many, many, years.
Dad enjoyed every day and was up for any adventure that came his way or more often he found. Right up until his death, he did everything he had always done not allowing old age to rule him. Strength and love for life made Dad’s incredible 92-year journey an inspiration for us all to live to by.
Donald’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at the Army and Navy auditorium, in the basement, 25-11 Street West, Prince Albert, SK.
