It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Edna Ora Wilson (nee Beacock) at the Victoria Hospital, in Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 98 years. Edna will be greatly missed by her sons, Wayne (Audrey) Wilson of Okotoks, AB, and Jerry of Prince Albert, SK; her grandsons, Norman of Victoria, BC, and Colin (Ula) of Calgary, AB; her granddaughter, Katelynn (Adam) of Prince Albert, SK; as well as several nieces and nephews, with special thanks to Elviette, who helped grandma whenever she could, in ways too numerous to mention. Edna was predeceased by her husband, Ken in 1999; her younger siblings, Herman, Della, and Vera.
In her 98 years, Edna witnessed the progression from horse and buggy, no electricity, no running water, to the digital age of today. As the eldest child, at a very young age, Edna was required to take on the family responsibilities, after her mother’s death. She also lived through the depression and carried on, on her own after Ken enlisted in the army during World War II. She married Ken in 1942. She documented that her wedding dress cos $1.95 and her wedding ring $2.95. Through all of this time, Edna was willing to do what was required, without need for recognition. Her greatest legacy was her love of animals and caring for others. She will be remembered as being adaptable and tenacious, with a quick wit and great sense of humor when least expected. She was well known for her knitting cowichan sweaters for many people throughout the years, as well as baking bread for everyone up until recently.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks and appreciation for the exceptional compassionate care given to Edna, by the staff at Level 6 of Victoria Hospital during her last few days. At Edna’s request, no funeral services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests donations be made to the Prince Albert SPCA, 1125 N Industrial Drive, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 5T1.
