EDWARD ALBERT HORODYSKI
July 19, 1939 – May 15, 2018
Ed was born on the farm at Kalyna, SK. Even as a young boy, growing into a man, he loved to be involved in family activities. He played ball, hockey (skating on Garden River and on the sloughs behind the barn). He played cards with only one goal in mind – to win every game, even if it meant cheating. Anyone who played against him was a candidate to his ways!
Ed did not have any children of his own, but he enveloped his nieces and nephews with open arms. He would play sports with them, treat them to BBQ’s and wiener roasts, take them to the drive-in, take them on the mail runs with him to Saskatoon, and play hide and seek, all like a true uncle.
Ed worked at Beaver Lumber, drove truck for Steve Struk delivering mail to Saskatoon, and then spent 33 years working as a truck driver at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary. He farmed on the homestead for as long as he was able to, then rented out his land. He lived the majority of his life on the farm where he was born, and eventually passed away on. He loved his farm and was so proud of it!
Due to ill health, he retired from the Penitentiary in 2008. He was well known to do mechanical work, welding and carpentry. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and his friends. He loved to cut custom fire wood and then deliver it to those who were in need of it in his 1949 Chev truck. He was known for his immaculate gardens (you could rarely ever find a weed in his huge garden!), his grass was always well-groomed, and he just loved to spend time on his land on his quad. Ed was an avid Raiders fan and would arrive at the game at least two hours early just to get a parking spot close to the arena! He was also well known for his vast collection of western movies, 8-tracks and cassettes of country music. His priority for the past eight years or so has been his dog: his buddy, Cooper. Ed loved his dog to pieces!
Ed was a true inspiration to all of his family and they were an important part of his life as well. He is survived by his sisters, Victoria Packham, Rose (Emil) Juravinski and Helen Adamko; his nieces and nephews, William (Linda) Packham, Murray (Karin) Packham, Sharon Chesley, Cindy (Bill) Chow, Brian Woroniuk, Curtis (Brenda) Juravinski, Debbie (Dale) Davis, Larry (Leah) Adamko, Della (Sid) Dearing and Diane Lavoie; as well as numerous other family members and friends. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Horodyski; his sister, Lena Woroniuk; his brothers-in-law, Mike Woroniuk, Vern Packham and Ed Adamko; and his great-niece, Jocelynn Lavoie; as well as many close friends.
Cowboy boots, big buckles, guns and toothpicks…
