MRS. EILEEN AUDREY SUDERMAN
Mrs. Eileen Audrey Suderman, beloved wife of Mr. Ronald John Suderman, formerly of Shellbrook, passed away peacefully in the Langham Care Home on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the age of 83.
Eileen was born in the Wadena Hospital, on October 17, 1934. She grew up on a farm near Nut Mountain with her parents Birger (Bill) and Opal Larson and younger sister Leona. Eileen attended Glengariff School until she was 11 and then moved to the town of Nut Mountain, where she continued school until she was 15. She was very adventurous, and loved to climb trees and take risks. Eileen loved to tell stories of her adventure and bravery as a teenager. At the age of 15 she moved to Quill Lake, where she worked as a waitress. From there she moved to Humboldt to work at the bowling alley, and then Fletcher’s Drug Store, where she met Ron. They moved to Saskatoon and were married at the Third Avenue United Church on September 7th, 1957. Soon after, they moved to Regina for Ron’s work with SaskPower. They lived there for a couple of years before returning to Saskatoon. In 1960, they had their son Brian, and in 1965 their daughter Karen. Eileen and Ron loved to square dance, and belonged to Suzie Q’s Square Dance Club. She loved to sew, and made her own dancing dresses.
In 1975, they moved to Shellbrook, where Ron was offered a better position with SaskPower. Eileen had always enjoyed decorating cakes and in the early 1980’s, she started her own business, Eileen’s Cake Decorating, out of her home. She made beautiful cakes for many occasions, but was most known for her intricate and exquisite wedding cakes. She also taught cake decorating along with paper tole and chocolate making. They lived in Shellbrook until 2013, when Eileen had a stroke and the decision was made to move to Borden to be closer to her daughter Karen and her son Brian of Saskatoon. Eileen ended up briefly in the Borden Care Home, and later in the Langham Care Home.
Throughout the years, Eileen loved camping, and spent many summers with her children, and later her grandchildren, at Candle, Nesslin, Turtle, and Emma lakes. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards, and spending time with her family. She was an excellent cook and was very meticulous with everything she did. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to spend time looking after them.
Eileen and Ron were active members of the Shellbrook United Church and also enjoyed volunteering at the Mental Health Centre in North Battleford through the church.
Left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are her husband, Ron Suderman of Langham, her son, Brian Suderman of Saskatoon, her daughter Karen (David) Buckingham of Borden; three grandchildren, Deanna Buckingham of Saskatoon, Corey (Jade) Buckingham of Vermillion, AB, and Kayla (Lyndon) Block of Warman; four great-grandchildren, Bentley and Hayden Buckingham of Vermillion, AB, and Ava and Madden Block of Warman; her sister, Leona (Burt) Simmons of Turtle Lake and a half-sister in law Wendy Allen of Burnaby B.C., and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Birger ‘Bill’ and Opal Larson of Shellbrook, and her half-brother, Phil Allen of Burnaby B.C.
The honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, Deanna Buckingham, Corey Buckingham, and Kayla Block.
The Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Thursday March 1St, 2018 at the Knox United Church in Shellbrook, SK.
