Wawryk, Ernest (Ernie) – 95 years
Ernie was born to Molly (Rybchinski) and Walter Wawryk on September 27, 1923 and grew up on the family farm with his five siblings. Ernie worked long hours on the land and tried his hand at other jobs in Ontario and British Columbia before settling in the Wakaw area. He married Alsace Lasko in 1944. Together they raised six children: Errol (Eileen Olde), Cheryl (Bill Jonnson), Charlotte (Gunter Post), Lynne (Darrel Epp), Ernadene (Ted Woodard), and Dwight. Their families carry on the lineage through the grandchildren: Monica (Robin Benoit), Shaun, and Dione Wawryk (Polischuk), Nikolai and Annelies Post, Zuri (Steve Ekoudi) and Kira Epp, Katrina Woodard (John Forrest), as well as great-grandchildren: Evan and Eric Benoit, Akiva, Bretlyn, Blaze, & Chaylene Polischuk, Enzo and Ezme Ekoudi, Robert Forrest and one great-great-grandson Bently Polishcuk. Ernie and Alsace worked hard together; however, they also took time to travel the world, dance to their favourite tunes, and socialize. Upon retiring from a successful farming career, Ernie enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and spent numerous hours volunteering at various agencies in Prince Albert. Up until his last days you could find Ernie helping friends by wheeling them to the dining room. Ernie’s physical health was amazing. He was always up for a walk! Unfortunately, he suffered from dementia the last few years which took his memories but brought tenderness to his heart. Ernie lived a full life and passed away in his sleep at Pineview on March 25, 2019. He was predeceased by his parents Walter (1980) and Molly (1989), his wife Alsace (2002), daughter Ernadene (1998), siblings Anne, Frank, Nick, James, infant siblings Mary and Steve, and in-laws Mary and John Lasko, George Lasko, Mary, Peter and Victor Smith. Ernie is survived by his brother Mike. A celebration of Ernie’s life will take place at Gray’s Funeral Home on March 29, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in Prince Albert with Pastor Dave Webster officiating, Interment at South Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be left for the family at www.grays.ca.
