It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Geneva Muriel Gibson. Geneva died peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. Mom was born Saturday, September 1, 1929, and spent most of her childhood in Vanscoy. In 1946, her family moved to Choiceland where she graduated from high school. Following graduation, Geneva moved to Vancouver to attend Business College. She returned home to work at her dad’s International Harvester dealership. It was in Choiceland where she met her husband, John Stirling Gibson. They started their family on May 10, 1953, when their daughter Cheryl Diane was born. Their son, Curtis Brent, was born February 6, 1957. The family moved to La Ronge in 1957. Mom was a homemaker for the first few years and then taught school for one year. In 1968, Mom joined Dad in business at the Imperial Oil Bulk. She ran the office and helped with the bookwork. Mom was “Grandma Gibson” to a lot of children in La Ronge. She was overjoyed with the birth of her own grandsons, Ryan Stirling born May 31, 2000, and Rhett Curtis born January 24, 2002. Geneva had many hobbies. She liked to cook and bake. Her fresh baked bread and buns, and lemon meringue pies were appreciated by all. Mom spent her winters curling and summers with Cheryl and Grandma Gibson planting and caring for all the flowers in their yard on La Ronge Avenue. She was an active member of the La Ronge United Church Women. She always looked forward to attending the meetings and spending time with the ladies. At the age of 60, mom found a new sport to love when she took up golf. She loved golfing and watching golf on TV. She was blessed to spend 23 winters in Mesa, AZ, where she golfed and socialized daily with old and new friends alike. She talked about her time in Arizona and her friends from there almost daily. Over the last few years, she hasn’t missed a golf tournament or curling competition, as she had her television tuned into all of them. Mom’s unwavering love for her family and friends, her radiant smile and her very positive outlook will never be forgotten. Geneva is survived by her son, Curtis (Merle) Gibson; her grandsons, Ryan and Rhett; her sisters, Joan Sanders of Logan Lake, BC, and Ester (Ron) Richards of Armley, SK; her nieces and nephews, Cynthia, Rex, Jim, Shelly, Gaelynn, Erin, and Tom. She was predeceased by, her husband, Stirling Gibson; her daughter, Cheryl Moline; her sisters, Cathy (Fraser) Rempel, and Patricia Wall; her brother, Vernon (Eileen) Sanders; and her niece, Amy Rempel. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at RUH 6200 ward, and palliative care for the loving care they gave Mom in her last few days. Geneva’s funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the River Park Funeral Home Chapel, 301 River Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Lac La Ronge Funeral Home in La Ronge, SK, 306-425-3666, Debra Klassen, Funeral Director, and River Park Funeral Home in Prince Albert, SK, 306-764-2727, Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
