In loving memory of George Stuart Weir who passed away on September 19, 2018.
George was born on October 21, 1927, in rural Prince Albert to Tom and Sarah (Henry) Weir, the seventh of their eight sons.
As a youngster, George helped with farm chores in the family’s dairy business (City Dairy), located just south of 31st Street East. He was active in 4-H, following in his older brothers’ footsteps. George worked at Bowman Brothers, later Acklands, until his retirement. He enjoyed bowling, gardening and the company of family and friends.
George will be remembered for his generous nature, his abundant garden, and his ability to connect with others. He never missed a family occasion, even traveling to Ontario with his nieces and nephew a few years ago to visit his own grandparents’ original homesteads. George was a farm boy at heart, harvesting produce from his garden until the very day he was admitted to the hospital.
George was predeceased by his 7 brothers: Gordon, Lindsay, Allen, Harvey, Carman, Bert & Tom Weir as well as his dear friend Ivy Smith.
He is survived by nephews & nieces: Terry Weir, Shirley Halayka, Joan Giese, Linda Davis, Karen Goodwin, Sandra Weir, Donna Lubyk, Jane Weir, Lorraine Selkirk, Jim Weir, Marilyn Lamothe, Phillip Weir, Maureen Reed (deceased), Corrine Herne, Patrick Weir, Pat Weir, Ron Weir, Alison Lait, and sister-in-law Beth Weir. He will be missed by everyone in his extended family.
The family extends our sincere thanks to George’s wonderful neighbors who have been so supportive over the years. His life concluded as he would have wished, in his own home, in his own community, and close to friends and family.
The family also wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care he received at the Victoria Hospital. We would like to thank Dr. Painter and all the nurses and staff who provided such caring and compassionate care.
There will be a Celebration of George’s life, Saturday, October 20, 2018, at Gray’s Funeral Chapel 575 – 28th St. W at 1:00 pm.
