Gertrude Kezar
June 28, 1935- October 17, 2018
It is with much sadness but even more great memories the family announces Gertie’s passing on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at the age of 83.
Gertie was born June 28, 1935, in a remote cabin at Dore Lake, SK. Her father Heinrich died accidentally at a young age, which left his wife Marianne to raise four young children in “the dirty 30’s”. The family moved to Big River, SK where the kids went to school. Gertie left home to move to Prince Albert at the age of 16, she worked at the Airways Café and Aaron’s Ladies Wear. Gertie was a “people person” and enjoyed meeting people everywhere she went.
She met and married a young mechanic Len Kezar and they lived in Calgary for a while, then returned to settle in Prince Albert. They had three children and she was a stay at home Mom until the children were all well along in school.
Gertie returned to work at Reitman’s Ladies Wear at the South Hill Mall and was a dedicated employee for over 25 years. Every summer weekend and holiday were spent at the cabin on the island on Lac La Ronge. “Kezar’s Palace” was always a well-attended Pub and Grill- our family’s little slice of paradise- in the middle of nowhere!!
Gertie and Len Kezar were active members in the Kinsmen, Kinette and K-40 Clubs of Prince Albert.
She was happy to play bridge with eight dear friends- that eventually dropped to four- for over forty years…. Many lasting friendships were made along the way.
Gertie and Len were proud of their children’s accomplishments and even more so of their eight grandchildren.
They always went the extra mile to make family time special. Every occasion on the calendar from New Years to Christmas was well celebrated. Easter time and Halloween were always…. “Memorable!”
Gertie took pride in being the number one fan for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders and the Blue Jays…..(even though she never really understood all the rules of the games and couldn’t see the ball!)
Family and friends and a positive attitude were the most important thing in her life.
Gertie is predeceased by her husband Len, father Heinrich, mother Marianne and brothers: Reinhold “Holty” and Ernest (Ernie) Goliath, mother and father-in-law: Florrie and Harry Kezar, brother-in-law Fred Kezar, and sister-in-law Marion (Manny) Beith.
Left to mourn her passing her loving family: daughter Sherry (Wayne) Bueckert and their children Adam, (Ashley) Bueckert and great-grandson Finn, Nelson (Tamara Lawson) Bueckert, Landon (Lindsey Badger) Bueckert, son Trent (Janice) Kezar and their children: Everett (Alyssa) Kezar, Kristen (Eric Fahie) Kezar, Jarrett Kezar, son John Kezar and his children: Kyle Kezar, Courtney (Andrew Wood) Kezar, also survived by her brother Heinrich” Hank” (Jacquie) Goliath and numerous other relatives of the Kezar and Goliath families and many very dear friends.
