Gilbert Hillier

Gilbert Charles Hillier passed away in Prince Albert, SK on August 21, 2019 at the age of 97. He was born on his parents’ farm in Crosswoods District near Southey, SK. Gilbert is survived and mourned by his loving wife, Pauline; son, Brad (Helen) Hillier; daughter, Gwen (Merle) Klebeck; grandchildren, Conner (Eleanor) Hillier, Kerri (Thomas) Kentz as well as four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kavan, Zackary, and Danica. He is also survived by his dear sister-in-law, Emma Hillier, and by many well-loved nieces and nephews. Gilbert was predeceased by parents, Charles and Louise (Martin); father and mother-in-law, Wallace and Edith Anderson; brothers, Edgar (Gertrude), and Roland; brothers-in-law, Bob, Willard (Genevieve), and Donald.
Gilbert joined the army in 1942 and sailed to England. He later joined the 17th Field Regiment spending time in Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. In October 1947, Gilbert married Pauline Anderson and had their family of two children. Gilbert bought land in the Crosswoods area and farmed for the next 50 years nearby to his brothers, Edgar and Roly. When Gilbert was in his 70’s and 80’s, he assisted son, Brad, and nephew, Ted, on the farm. The Hillier brothers and their wives and children were all very close and had many happy years together. Gilbert enjoyed all sports, cross-country skiing, playing hockey and ball, and in his later years, golf and bowling. He followed current affairs and politics right up to the last few weeks of his life. He had a great love for animals and usually had a dog by his side. He always had time for his children and family and made life on the farm very special. In 1995, Gilbert and Pauline moved to Southey, SK. In 2011, they moved to Good Shepherd Villa in Prince Albert, SK where Pauline still resides.

A Graveside Service will be held at the Southey Cemetery on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Gilbert’s memory to the Southey Cemetery, Box 248, Southey, SK S0G 4P0.
