It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ina Twigge (Twiggy), at the young age of 91 years, on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert. Ina passed away with her son and nieces at her side, after a brief illness. Ina was born near Star City, SK on Friday, November 12, 1926. She had an identical twin named Ida and was the last of eight children born to Ole and Ida Christine Johnson. Ina was raised with her siblings on a farm and knew hard work all of her life. She left home and went to Waskesiu and worked with her sister in housekeeping while living in a tent shack. Ina had her only son, Leonard Twigge on July 22, 1952. She later married Blair Twigge in 1962. They lived in the Yukon and in Saskatchewan, finally settling in Prince Albert. Ina had many different jobs in the city and also was known by the people who frequented the Army and Navy for her dance skills. After Blair passed away, Ina travelled to Hawaii and took several bus trips around Canada and the USA, including Nashville, Memphis, Alaska, B.C., and Watrous Mineral Springs (one of her favorite places). She also surprised her son Len with a trip to Las Vegas on his 40th birthday. Ina was well known to the city bus drivers in Prince Albert, as she would often bake them cookies and other goodies. She kept herself busy by taking the bus downtown to do her shopping and run errands. A couple of years ago, Ina had a stroke and ended up in a nursing home after a several month stay in the hospital. However, she always knew that she would go back to her home in the west flat. Sure enough, the nursing home was sold and she was strong enough to move back and take care of herself. She stayed here until a couple of nights before she passed away. Ina was a very strong, tenacious woman. She was completely independent. She cut her own grass, raked leaves, and shovelled until very recently (even using a dustpan and broom to sweep up the snow when she wasn’t strong enough to push a shovel). Although Ina kept up the yard herself for the most part, she also had great neighbours who pitched in and helped. She always commented that she had the best neighbours on Johnson Crescent. Ina leaves behind her son Leonard Twigge of Edmonton, AB; and several extended family. She was predeceased by, her husband Cecil Blair Twigge; her parents, Ole and Ida Christine Johnson; her brothers, Lloyd, Chuck, and Larry Johnson; her sisters, Ida Pegg, Evelyn Primeau, Mabel Condy, and Gladys Primeau; her parents-in-law, Harold and Freda Twigge; brother-in-law, Bud Twigge; her sister-in-law, Elaine Reed; and many more family members. There will be a graveside service for Ina at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens, and lunch to follow at the Army and Navy Club. Donations can be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, Paula Hanson, Funeral Director.
