Jean Gareau

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our cherished husband, father, and pépère on December 31, 2018. He faced all adversities with faith, courage and good humour, including the health issues he endured during the last few years of his life.
Jean was born on August 24, 1930, in St. Isidore de Bellevue, the second youngest of a large family. He worked hard his entire life, logging as a young man with his brother-in-laws, working at Burns meat packing plant for about 19 years, first on construction, then as a meat cutter, and most importantly, farming west of Prince Albert, in the Lily Plain area, the real passion of his life and a lasting legacy to his children, providing them with a childhood they will never forget.
Jean leaves to mourn his wife, Florence Paulhus of 14 years, his children, Elaine Gareau (Gary Trotter), Carmen Gareau (William Brebber), Colette Gareau (Luc Delorme), Guy Gareau (Darcie Smayda), Joanne Romih (Brian Romih), Gisèle Gareau (Timon LeDain), his grandchildren Nicole Trotter (Greg Walsh) and Renée Trotter (Will Boaks) from Toronto, ON, Marc Brebber (Michelle Eastwood), Danielle Brebber and Paul Brebber from Calgary, AB, Jean-François Delorme (Marie-Ève Gauthier) from Gatineau, QC, Nicolas Delorme (Paula Chan) from Washington, DC, Marie-Claire Delorme from Cairo, Egypt, Phillip Gareau (Taylor Lindgren) from Spruce Home, SK, Casey Gareau and Dana Gareau from Vancouver, BC, Darren Romih and Megan Romih from Calgary, AB, Eric LeDain and Sophie LeDain from Kanata, ON, his great-grandchildren Alexis, Benjamin, Léa and Juliette Delorme, Henry and Xavier Delorme, Payton Gareau and Nathan Walsh, his sister-in-laws Muriel Chicoine (Prince Albert) and Thérese Gareau (Wakaw), brother-in-law Bob Ethier (Prince Albert), and Florence’s family.
Jean is predeceased by his wife Muriel Gareau (Chicoine) of 47 years, his son Martin who died tragically in 2008, his parents Joseph and Rose Alba, six brothers and sisters-in-law, Antoine (Julie-Anne), Xavier (Fleur-Ange), Ovila (Alexina), Alphonse (Berthe), Alfred (Georgette), Léonard, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosanne (Armand Chicoine), Annette (Victor Dubois), Florence (Roger Roy) and many of his brother and sisters-in-law by marriage, nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Parish, 1505 13th St. W. Interment to follow in Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations can be directed to the 5th Floor, Victoria Hospital in memory of Jean, 1200 24 St W, Prince Albert, SK S6V 4B2.
