Joan Sanderson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our partner, mother, grandmother, friend, colleague and teacher Joan Sanderson. She passed away on April 20, 2018, at the age of 72 with her family by their side at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert. Joan was born on March 30, 1946, in Saskatoon, SK to John and Marion Webster. Joan had two brothers, Bob and Stephen. Joan’s love and passion for learning brought her to attend The First Nation University of Canada and The University of Saskatchewan as well as Ph.D. at UBC.
She was recognized and honored for her excellence by the many awards she received. Joan was the recipient of BSW: Bachelor of Social Work, MCED: Masters of Continuing Education, RSW: Registered Social Worker, as well SEP: Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. Joan’s passion for academics and love of teaching led her to become a Professor of Counselling at The First Nations University and CEO of Inner World Work. In 1966 Joan married Don Farion and they had 2 children Michael and Donny. In Aug of 1975, Joan married the love of her life Hubert Sanderson and they had 2 children together: Dayna and Steve. Joan did find time in her busy schedule to make family a priority by spending time at the cabin and honing her skills even further by becoming, as her family would give her one more title to add to her repertoire “World Class Grandparent and Mother-in-law.”
Joan will be forever remembered and missed by her loving partner: Hubert; her children: Michael Farion; Donny (Christine) Choquette Farion; Dayna Sanderson; Steve (Wendy) Ebbs Sanderson, grandchildren: Micheal Farion, Nakota Ledeux – Sanderson, Eve Farion; siblings: Stephen (Karen) Webster; nieces: Rachel Vanneste; Danielle Greig; Kelsey Chow, numerous other nieces and nephews from the Sanderson Clan; as well as close friends: Keith (Linda) Goulet; Dick Katz & Verna St. Denis; Sid (Mary) Fiddler; Ruth Cuthand; Danny Musqua; Louise McCallum; Bruce (Merideth) Moore; Fred (Ann) Reeki.
Joan is predeceased by parents: Marion and John Webster; brother: Bob Webster.
Memorial Service will commence@ 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at the Senator Allen Bird Gym with Jacob Sanderson and Sid Fiddler officiating. Honorary Speakers will be Linda Goulet and Steve Sanderson.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Joan’s name to The Canadian Cancer Society. Interment will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
