Larry Edwin Clapson was born on October 20, 1946 to Arthur (Ted) and Ella (nee Wasson) Clapson at St. Therese Hospital in Tisdale, SK. He was the eldest of four children.
Larry attended grades one to seven at Henderson School and finished his schooling at Ridgedale, SK. He then completed a two-year course in Farm Machinery Mechanics at SIAST in Saskatoon, SK.
On July 6, 1968, Larry married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Sharon Muriel King at the United Church in Ridgedale, SK.
Larry and Sharon lived and worked in Melfort, SK until May of 1969 when they moved to La Ronge, SK. Larry found employment there at the Anglo Rouyn Mine driving a scoop tram.
On March 27, 1970, Brenda Darlene was born at the La Ronge hospital and joined her loving parents.
In September 1970, Sharon’s father passed away and the young family moved back to Ridgedale to help with farming and the homestead.
Darren Edwin John was born on March 8, 1973 at the Tisdale Hospital and completed Larry’s perfect family.
This happy family of four lived at their farm in Ridgedale. Not only did Larry have a mixed farm of grain, cows, and pigs from 1970-2016, but he was employed with the Tisdale Alfalfa Dehydrating Ltd from 1989-1996. Larry was also a licensed Timber Scaler and scaled with his son Darren for the past 21 years. In 2008, Larry and Sharon built their current home in the RM of Buckland and is where he resided until his passing.
Larry loved and always had time for his family. He was someone that his children, grandchildren, nephews, and nieces would ask for and listen to his guidance and wisdom. The lights of his life were his four grandchildren: Matthew Edward, Nicole Brianna, Jordan Dillon, and Justin Edwin John. Grandpa made sure that each of his grandchildren knew how special and loved each of them were. He always attended various hockey games, tournaments, and ball games. If there was a raffle table, “PC” was sure to have bought tickets and more than likely won something!
Larry loved hockey…as a player, as a coach, and as a spectator. He was a faithful follower, season ticket holder, and fan of the Prince Albert Raiders. This past playoff season for the Raiders was phenomenal. Larry faithfully tuned in and watched the games as he was unable to attend, including the WHL Championship game where the Raiders hoisted the Ed Chynoweth cup. This past Father’s Day, the cup came to Larry. The look on his face when Kim Jackson (the keeper of the cup) walked into the room carrying the cup was priceless!
Although Larry was not a hunter, he loved hunting season…especially Elk season. This was special time that he was able to spend with son, son-in-law, grandsons, and nephews.
Larry passed from this world on July 26, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was predeceased by his father Ted; his parents-in-law John and Pearl King; numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, and his nephew Jason Peterson.
Larry is lovingly remembered by his wife Sharon and their special dog Chili; his mother Ella Clapson; his daughter Brenda (Ed) Kwiatkowski and their children Matthew and Jordan; his son Darren (Lori) Clapson and their children Nicole and Justin; his brothers Bryan (Lori) Clapson and Melvin (Barb) Clapson; his sister Linda Peterson; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as Uncle Jim Clapson, Aunt Lima Dorward, and Aunt Mabel Knutsen.
