1923 – 2018
Sadly, on May 10, 2018 at the age of 94 years, Leona “Tiny” Florence Posty passed away peacefully in Wheatland Lodge Care Home.
Leona was born and raised on a farm near Shell Lake, SK. She was the youngest of eight siblings. Her sister was 16 months older and was called the “Baby”, Leona was the “Tiny” baby and has been called “Tiny” ever since.
She worked at a variety of jobs and then met John Posty. They married on May 1, 1942, lived and farmed on John’s boyhood farm. The house still stands along the highway to the west of Mont Nebo. They had Judy & John, then in the fall of 1945 moved to the Shellbrook area.
Tiny was a superb knitter, siwash sweaters being her specialty. Her passions were her gardening, taking care of her amazing house plants, making wonderful wedding cakes, and everyone’s favorite was her delicious cinnamon buns. Tiny’s Church family was also very important to her. She drove school bus for many years, endearing herself to many children of whom have grown up to be lifelong friends. She always said, “I love people” and her home was a place for family, friends and even the odd stranger to gather. She saw the good qualities in others, was kind, understanding and had a great sense of humor. There was always a twinkle in her eye. Her motto was, “life is what you make it”. Thanks mom for sharing your wonderful self with others, leaving many unforgettable memories with everyone who knew and loved you and shared in your life’s journey.
The Service of Remembrance for Tiny was held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. from the St. Andrews Anglican Church in Shellbrook with Canon Kim Salo officiating. Leona was laid to rest beside her loving husband, John in the Shellbrook Cemetery.
Tiny was lovingly survived by her son, John (Melrose) Posty and their children: Keri (Donald) Fleming and son, Liam; Lori Posty and her children, Josh (Jill) and their daughter, Ada; Jordan; Jensen; Greg (Kellie) Posty and children, Brooke, Tyra, Gunner and Kyver; her daughter Judy (Gary) Lohmeier and their children Cori (Jay) Christensen and children, Ty (Ashleigh) and their children, Natalie and Brynn; Tia; Brad (Lindsay) Lohmeier and children Owen and Max.
