Patricia Vick

Patricia Doreen Vick was born on Saturday, July 2, 1927, and passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019, in Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 91 years. She was born in Assiniboia, SK, to parents of Irish and German heritage. Most of her formative years were spent on or nearby the family farm near Maxstone, where the rigours of Canadian prairie life developed a strong work ethic and an enduring spirit. It was also in this rural setting that Patricia developed a lifelong abiding love for animals. High points of these years included Christmas school concerts and festive gatherings at her grandmother Moser’s farm.
At the age of 12, Patricia incurred an injury during friendly game of baseball. The injury progressed to a serious medical condition; as a consequence much her youth and was spent in and out of hospitals. At the age of 23 she was finally free to resume a normal life, and found employment first as a telephone operator and then as a department store clerk in Moose Jaw. There she met her future husband Frank; the two were married in St. Andrews’s United Church on October 29, 1955.
After a few relocations, Patricia and Frank chose Prince Albert in which to establish a permanent home and start a family. From 1956 to 1975 Patricia and was very busy managing a household and raising two boys. She was an active hockey and baseball mom. Favorite hobbies included gardening and cuisine, especially baking. Her beloved dogs were always an integral part of the family, and no fewer than 8 canine companions accompanied her on her journey through life.
In 1975, Patricia and Frank moved to an acreage north of Prince Albert. In subsequent years many gatherings of family and friends were hosted in this rural setting. There was also time for traveling: to the west and east coasts of Canada, the southern US, Hawaii, England, Ireland, and Holland. In 1992, the first of two grandchildren arrived, and the role of grandmother immediately became the main focus of Patricia’s life. Also in 1992, Frank retired there were many additional opportunities for trips with the Good Sam RV Club and with the expanded family. In 2009, advancing age required relocation back to the city, where Patricia spent her remaining years.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Frank; her sons, Doug and Bart (Tammy); her grandchildren, Jenna (Bo) and Dustin; her brother, Bob (Pauline); and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Mary Mooney; and her brother, Wilbur. A Celebration of Patricia’s Life will take place at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, May 10, 2019, at Calvary United Church, 114 25 Street East, Prince Albert, SK, Reverend Nora Vedress officiating.
