PENNY MAZURAK
1920 – 2017
Florence “Penny” Louise Lydell Mazurak passed away peacefully in Prince Albert, SK on Sunday, November 5, 2017. Mom was born on Tuesday, August 3, 1920 in Brighton, England to Alfred and Rosetta Newman. She was the youngest of seven children. Mom spent the first 26 years of her life growing up in Brighton. She loved to volunteer at the church canteen, helping with the troops during World War II. This is where she met the love of her life, Peter Mazurak. They married in England and made the journey back to Canada, landing in Halifax from the voyage over on the ship, The Mauritania. Mom was 25 years old and only returned once to England in her long life. They travelled to Saskatchewan, settling in the Whitefox area. They lived in various towns in Saskatchewan and finally settling in Prince Albert. Mom had a long career at the Marlboro Inn as a Front Desk clerk and ending her career as the Catering Manager. They both loved spending time with friends at the Army and Navy and Legion club rooms, where they were both life long members. Mom loved to knit for a hobby, and we were all the fortunate recipients of homemade slippers, dishcloths, siwash’s and afghans. She loved to play cards and shuffleboard at the Legion. She was always up for an adventure and at the age of 70, she decided to try out tubing behind the boat at one of her favorite places, Candle Lake. She loved her grandchildren very much and always enjoyed spending time with them. Mom loved all of her family very much and we will miss her greatly. Her strength and determination were an inspiration to all of us. Penny was predeceased by her husband, Peter in 1981. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Maureen Blackburn; her son, Raymond (Gail) and their children, Kris, Kevin, Nicki and Marc; her daughter, Debbie Podborochynski and her children, Fallon Merkowsky (Alyssa), Meghan and Arron; her son, Michael (Kate) and their children, Jeffrey (Genelle) and Lauren (James) Tessier; and her daughter, Lynn (Tim) Braaten and their son, Reid; as well as two great-grandchildren. Honouring Mom’s request, there will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Prince Albert Branch #2, 133 8th Street East, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 0V8. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, Paula Hanson, Funeral Director.
