This dynamic role requires that you have a working knowledge of addictions, domestic violence, poverty, disabilities, mental health, family relationships, abuse and neglect dynamics. As well, excellent written and verbal skills along with the ability to engage resistant individuals and the ability to accurately assess and develop plans based on client needs is required.
To qualify, you will possess a degree from an accredited university or college; or a minimum two-year diploma, with a focus on the principles of behavioural change and other assessment skills, this would include Correctional Studies, Justice Studies, Community and Justice Services, Social Work or Mental Health; or meet the grandfathering provisions in accordance with Community Corrections qualifications. If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you must have it assessed against Canadian education standards. You will also be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in:
- Contributing factors of criminal behaviours;
- Theories and intervention strategies including cognitive behavioural approaches; and,
