Robert “Bob” Sajtos
April 6, 1937 – September 18, 2018
Bob passed away unexpectedly at his residence, Luther Special Care Home in Saskatoon, SK, on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at the age of 81. Bob was born on April 6, 1937, in Lestock, SK, and grew up on the family homestead. After completing school at Poplar Peak and Lestock, he attended Teachers’ College in Moose Jaw. Bob later enrolled in the University of Saskatchewan where he met Joan. He and Joan married in 1962. Bob taught a few years in one-classroom schools before spending the majority of his career in Prince Albert. He was principal of King George School when he retired in 1990. Bob was involved in the Canadian Army reserves for close to 30 years, working his way through the officer ranks to be Commander of B Company in Prince Albert and later of the North Saskatchewan Regiment. He spent several summers commanding Camp Dundurn. After retirement, he and Joan moved to Candle Lake where he was very active on the village council and with the trails committee, Communities in Bloom, and Search and Rescue. He loved to explore new places with Joan, traveling to Europe and Hawaii and RV’ing around North America. Bob was always busy, fixing this and organizing that, and kept those around him busy too! But he could find time to relax with a good book and to share “paradise” at Candle Lake with wiener roasts, snacks on the deck, or zipping around on the boat, ATV or snowmobile, especially with his grandsons. Bob moved to Saskatoon living at Luther Riverside and Luther Special Care Home for the last few years. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Joan; and three siblings, Susan, Louis and Helen. Bob is survived by his children: Rob (Gail), and Cathy (Kevin); grandsons, Jon and Jared; granddogs, Cherchi and Rumble; brother, Alex (Sophie); sister, Viola (Carl); sister-in-law, Betty; numerous nieces and nephews; and by many friends. Bob’s family is very grateful for the exceptional care and compassion Bob received through LutherCare. A celebration of Bob’s life will take place on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., at the Candle Lake Community Church, officiated by Reverend Bill Bridal. Interment will take place at the Candle Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to LutherCare Communities or to Candle Lake Search and Rescue.
