It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Nelson Stewart late of Prince Albert, SK on December 7, 2018 at the age of 87. Bob was born in community of Spalding, Sask. and at the start of War World II the family moved to Saskatoon while Grandpa served in the war effort. After the war the family moved to Prince Albert, SK to manage the Floyd Glass dairy farm. The following year the family purchased land nearby and they started their own dairy farm. It was here that Dad was involved in the dairy industry. He was always ensuring that he kept up with the latest standards and in the mid 60s he was one of the first to build a raised platform milking parlour.
Mom lived on a nearby farm which was next door to the Royal Church and it was through one of dad’s mischievous acts that they met. They married in Ontario in 1953. In 1956 they moved back to Prince Albert, SK to start their own dairy farm. In 1992 Dad retired from farming, but he and mom continued to live on the farm. Dad enjoyed life and he was a good friend to many. He loved reading about Canadian history, tinkering with old farm equipment, discussing politics and professional wrestling.
Bob is survived by his wife Alma of 65 years; his children Gail (Tim), Cheryl (Willy), Hazel (Rob), Ken (Kathy), Nelson (Anne), Glenda (Dave), Eric (Cindy), and Greg (Lleanne); his sister: Vivian; his brother: Jim (Judy); 18 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents: Hilda and Nelson; his sister: Nancy; his brother: Bill; and sister in-law: Marlene; his brother in-law: Jack; Alma’s parents: Jens and Magdalena; in-laws: Kresten, Nielsine, Jenny and Nels, Karla and Georg, Inger and Ossie; and family members in Sweden and Northern Ireland.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mont St. Joseph for the excellent care they gave him over the last few years and the Anglican Diocese who provided spiritual support. On Saturday December 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. there will be a graveside service at the St John’s Royal Anglican Cemetery located on Royal Road south of Prince Albert. Afterwards there will be a Celebration of life at 3:00 p.m. at St George’s Anglican Church hall located at 1104, 4th Street East in Prince Albert. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Mont St Joseph Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Anglican Diocese of Saskatchewan or to the charity of their choice. A tree will be planted in Dad’s memory on the family farm. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium.
