Therese Gabruch (nee Painchaud) passed away on Feb. 7th in Prince Albert shortly after complications from a stroke. Therese was born in Paddockwood, Saskatchewan on Dec.14th, 1941. She had the fortune of coming from a vibrant, close family of 14 children, refusing to miss a minute of their frequent gatherings in Albertville and Prince Albert. The calling to become a teacher lead Therese to Sherbrook, Quebec where she completed her teaching education before moving to North Battleford, teaching at Notre Dame, St. Mary’s and St. Josephs elementary schools for the remainder of her career. Walter Gabruch from North Battleford married Therese on Jul 18, 1962 after he found the love of his life in the back of his taxi. Their family expanded with the birth of their three children Barry, Shelley and Darin. With heavy hearts, the family suffered the loss of Darin in 1989. Through Therese and Walter’s strong faith and support of family and friends, the couple continued forward. In 2006, Therese displayed enormous displays of love as she cared for Walter through the unfortunate accident of falling down the stairs and consequential paralysis in 2007. Therese continued on without Walter, filling her time volunteering, attending church functions and frequent visits to children and grandchildren in Alberta. It was guaranteed that she could be found during the summer at her cabin at Turtle Lake, eagerly waiting a good game of cards or beanbag with her friends and grandchildren, Tia Gabruch, Talyssa Antoshchuk, Carson, Selina and Shelise Gabruch. Therese left a lasting impression on all those she encountered as she led her life with full belief that one is to love without condition, care without expectation, give of yourself without attention and do all with a laugh and a smile. Vigil of Prayers was held February 12th and Mass of Christian Burial was on February 13th, both at Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish, North Battleford, SK. Interment took place at the City of North Battleford Cemetery. Sallows & McDonald – Wilson & Zehner Funeral Home, Wally Markewich in care of arrangements. 306-445-2418.
