NLSD hires new superintendent of facilities
The Northern Lights School Division is welcoming a new superintendent of facilities to its staff this week.
Doug Hrycuik, who currently lives at Weyakwin Lake, came out of semi-retirement to accept the position and he officially started Dec. 3. He’s taking over the job from Dennis Teichroeb, who left more than a year ago, and Hrycuik said it will be his first time working in a school system. In all, Hrycuik has 28 years in construction management and supervision.
“I was semi-retired and getting quite restless, so I thought I would look around and see what was available and this seemed like a good fit for me,” he said. “My qualifications come from working overseas, working with different cultures, and being in a position to manage people and projects.”
Hrycuik went on to say the next few months will be a learning curve for him, as there are many parts of the job he’ll need to become familiar with. He also noted the school division is quite large, adding logistics and personnel are spread thinly throughout the region. It will be a challenge, Hrycuik said, to understand all the processes and to develop plans to make sure operations run smoothly.
